Avram Grant Close To Walking Out Of Portsmouth
The soap opera style drama that is Portsmouth FC looks no sign of relenting as the Sack Race understands that Avram Grant is on the verge of walking out of Fratton Park, the Israeli Manager is said to be furious over the sales of Younes Kaboul and Asmir Begovic behind his back to Tottenham. Grant is looking to add to his squad before the transfer window closes but it appears that the powers that be at the club have agreed to sell Kaboul and Begovic to Spurs, its thought that without the incoming transfer money to the club then the Pompey players would not recieve their wages for February.
Portsmouth are lurching from one crisis to another this season and this latest saga will do their Premier League survival chances no good at all, to add to their misery there now appears to be in-fighting within the club with the left-hand not knowing what the right-hand is doing over the impending transfers. Chief Executive Peter Storrie has publicly admitted that he had no hand in the sale of Kaboul and Begovic with Finance Director Danny Azougy reportedly in charge of doing the deals, Storrie feels he could have got more money for the players and he himself has said “In many ways our position has become untenable.”
Portsmouth face a fight to even keep the club going with huge debts to various parties including the taxman, as well as the little matter of Sol Campbell suing his former club for £1.7million over unpaid wages and bonuses, this is set to be the final straw for Avram Grant who only took over in the hot seat a couple of months ago. Grant is facing the impossible task of keeping the club up and his odds in the Next Premier League Manager To Be Sacked Betting have been slashed and he is now odds-on to be the next gaffer for the exit door, losing your best players is not a recipe for survival and the team are already adrift at the foot of the table with just a few months of the season left.
The only slice of good news for Pompey fans this week was that the clubs transfer embargo has been slightly lifted to allow Avram Grant to bring in loan signing s and free transfers, Grant will be hoping to bolster the squad in the next few days with some inspired signings but at this stage that is looking unlikely with Aruna Dindane and David James set to join Kaboul and Begovic heading out of the Fratton Park exit door.
