Avram Grant Set For West Ham After Leaving Pompey

0

Less than 24 hours after leaving Portsmouth, it already appears that Avram Grant has agreed a deal to become the new West Ham Manager in a move that will see him replace Gianfranco Zola at Upton Park. It has been clear for a number of days now that David’s Gold and Sullivan had identified Avram Grant as the man they want at Upton Park and it looks like they have got their man with the minimum of fuss. Grant resigned as Manager of Portsmouth yesterday in an inevitable move with the club heading for the Championship and no signs of things improving either on or off the pitch in the near future. In fact, Grant is quite possibly is the only man at Fratton Park who has managed to enhance his reputation this season and that has earned him another crack in the Premier League.

Pompey were gallant losers in the FA Cup Final on Saturday with Avram Grant in emotional mood, he was clearly saying goodbye to the fans with his move to Upton Park already on the cards. The former Chelsea Manager is hardly facing an easy task in his new job though, he a big task on his hands next season as he tries to improve the fortunes of West Ham on the pitch. The Hammers have been struggling in recent times and credit has to go to Zola for keeping the team in the top flight, ultimately though the new owners wanted their own man and it was clear from the outset of their tenure that the little Italian would be on his bike at the end of the season.

West Ham themselves are struggling like Portsmouth financially which is sure to make Grant feel at home but its hoped that the Hammers will be away from the relegation zone next season with a mid-table position surely the aim as they look to build towards the future. There is a fantastic fan base at Upton Park and Grant will be hoping to lift the fans with some good results but it will not be easy, he will not have a huge transfer budget so will need to be shrewd with any potential signings this Summer. He will be given time by Gold and Sullivan who in the past have given their men time to turn things around which will be an encouragement to Grant, but the fans will not want to endure another season like last one so he will still be under pressure from game one as all Premier League Managers are.
