Capello Facing Tough Week After Bridge Quits England

0

Fabio Capello is facing up to perhaps perhaps the toughest week of his career as England Manager over the next seven days as the squad gathers for its first friendly since the John Terry scandal broke a few weeks back, the situation has once again hit the news with Wayne Bridge announcing he is unavailable for selection. Bridge of course seems to be the man at the centre of the John Terry storm and he has decided that he is unable to play with the former England Captain next week against Egypt or at this Summer’s World Cup. Bridge felt that his inclusion would cause divisions in the camp and in a World Cup year that will be of grave concern for the Italian who has been busy in South Africa checking up on the training facilities.

All eyes in the build up to the friendly against Egypt at Wembley will now be on John Terry and Fabio Capello with the press looking for any potential splits in the camp, Capello is desperate to put the whole affair behind him and will be looking to get down to the business of playing. His skills will be tested to the limit as he looks to prepare a potentially divided camp whilst accommodating John Terry in the team for a crucial match against a good team, Egypt are the African Cup Of Nations Champions and will punish England if they are slightly off their game as the World Cup approaches.

Fate dictated that Ashley Cole would get injured following the scandal between John Terry and Wayne Bridge with the Man City Left-back then immediately thrusted into the limelight as the likely replacement. However, Bridge has now taken himself out of the situation leaving Capello with a selection headache at left-back. Whoever plays against Egypt could well be the man in the shirt in South Africa should Ashley Cole fail to recover in time, there have been a number of names mentioned and Capello will be mulling it over very carefully. The two obvious candidates are Leighton Baines of Everton and Stephen Warnock of Aston Villa and both have been in great form this season so both will be hoping for that call-up in World Cup year.

Capello will know that the last month has been the worst possible start to a World Cup year with him having to strip Terry of the Captaincy and now losing Bridge, Rio Ferdinand is the new Captain of the side and he will face a tough task of stamping his mark on the team. Ferdinand though is currently injured and is likely to miss the Egypt friendly leaving Steven Gerrard as the man likely to take the armband fitness depending.
