Coventry City Sack Chris Coleman
The Championship season has barely been over for 48 hours but we already have out first Managerial casualty of the Summer with Coventry City sacking Chris Coleman. The Sky Blues have endured yet another poor season with the club eventually finishing down in 19th place and chairman Ran Ranson has decided to act quickly by giving the former Fulham Manager the elbow. Coleman had been in charge at the Ricoh Arena for two-and-a-half years but he has been unable to move the team forward during that time with the 4-0 defeat at home to Watford on Saturday appearing to be the straw that broke the Camel’s back.
Coventry have struggled to make any impression on the Championship for a number of years despite a succession of Managers coming through the door and Chris Coleman can now be added to that list of Managers who have failed. The club have a fantastic stadium but the football on the pitch has failed to live up to that standard of late with the team falling away at the end of the season for the second season in-a-row. The search will now begin for a successor to Coleman at Coventry and the Sack Race understands that there is no one lined up immediately meaning it could be a lengthy search during the Summer.
A number of Managers have failed to improve the on-field fortunes of Coventry in recent season so the next appointment will be absolutely crucial for the Sky blues, they are likely to look for an experienced Manager at Championship level. The transfer budget will be minimal so any new Manager will need to be able to get the best out of the players already at the club as well as having an eye for a bargain or two if he is to move the club into the top half of the Championship table next season. As for Chris Coleman, well his career has been on the slide for some time now and he may need to take a step back before assessing his next move in football after a promising start to his Managerial career at Fulham.
