Dowie On His Way As Hull Are Relegated Back To The Championship
Iain Dowie was given a chance by Hull City to keep them in the Premier League but Saturday’s defeat at home to Sunderland means that Dowie has failed in his mission and he now looks sure to be on his way in the Summer. Phil Brown was sacked in order to give the club a chance of survival but Dowie has been unable to turn the fortunes of the club around. The Tigers have won just one match since Dowie took charge of the club with very little improvement in the performances of the team it looks like time is up, the Manager was given a short term contract at Hull and on the back of this run it is hard to see his stay at the KC Stadium being extended any further.
Hull City appear now to be in big hole with the club reported to be in deep financial trouble following relegation with chairman Adam Pearson describing relegation as the ‘doomsday scenario’, he has publicly criticised former chairman Paul Duffen for the wage bill and it now looks a long way back for Hull. It is understood that the previous regime spent huge amounts on wages when The Tigers were promoted and with very little return on that investment the future is now looking bleak. Attention now turns to the search for a likely replacement for Dowie as the club look to bounce back at the first time of asking, any Manager coming in will need to be willing to work on a shoe string budget and have experience of taking a team through the long Championship season.
The worry for Hull fans and any future Manager will be that The Tigers follow the same path as Southampton, Leicester and Leeds in recent years who have both struggled financially following relegation from the top flight and were soon in League One as a result. Adam Pearson has said that the club will need a radical overhaul with the wage bill being slashed the first priority for any new Manager, at this stage it certainly does not look the most attractive of possibilities for any new man coming into the KC Stadium. Dowie has said he would like to stay at the club next term but that looks highly unlikely considering his poor spell since taking over meaning his stop start career could well be stopping again over the Summer.
