Harry Redknapp Under Pressure After Talking Up Title Chances For Spurs

0

Spurs had a great season last year in finishing fourth and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time, Manager Harry Redknapp rightly has taken a lot of the credit for the turnaround in fortunes and he believes they can still improve further. When Redknapp joined Spurs they were in the relegation zone but just a couple of seasons later they find themselves in with a chance of qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition, it has been a remarkable couple of years at White Hart Lane but with that comes pressure to improve.

Redknapp has spent an awful lot of money on new players in recent years, with only Chelsea and Man City spending more over the past three or four years but with that comes expectation and it will be interesting to see how Spurs fare this year. Redknapp has heaped the pressure on himself and the team by declaring that there is no reason why the team cannot win the title this year, that seems a long way off at the moment for a team making their first steps into the big league. They will need to use every player in their strong squad with Champions League games coming thick and fast along with vital games in the Premier League as they look to maintain their place in the top four.

Tottenham did a good job last year in finishing fourth but with Man City spending big again and Liverpool rebuilding and looking revitalised under Roy Hodgson they will face an almighty battle to hold onto a top four place let alone put together a title challenge. Harry Redknapp has done an excellent job at White Hart Lane but this could well be his toughest challenge yet as we approach a Premier League season that is looking as open as it has done for a long time. There will be six or seven teams fighting it out for those top four places and as Liverpool found out last season it only takes a slight dip in form for a team to slip down the table and into the Europa League, each of the Managers of the big teams will only be too aware of the pitfalls and that will be something that Redknapp will be mindful of.

It is shaping up to be a fascinating Premier League season and the Sack Race will be watching the progress of Harry Redknapp and Spurs with great interest, it is a cross road for the club as they look to prove that their fourth place finish was no one hit wonder.
