Hodgson Looking To Bring The Good Times Back To Liverpool

0

When Roy Hodgson was announced as the new Liverpool Manager a couple of weeks ago there was somewhat of a split with Liverpool fans, some worried that he was not a big enough name to attract the top players to the club as they look to recover from a shocking season last term. So far though Hodgson has been impressing everyone at the club including the supporters, he has managed to pull off the transfer coup of the season in bringing in Joe Cole whilst talking sense about his ambitions for the club. He is aware that Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world and is looking to bring the good feeling back to the squad that seemed to ebb away under Rafa Benitez.

Hodgson has immediately set about getting rid of some of the deadwood at the club, already out of the door this summer are the likes of Emiliano Insua and Albert Riera as he looks to bolster his transfer kitty for replacements. There are likely to be one or two more out of the door over the next few weeks but we know that they will not include Steven Gerrard after he committed his future to the club while Fernando Torres is also looking increasingly likely to stay at Anfield for the Hodgson revolution. If Hodgson can keep hold of Torres there is no doubt that the club will enter the new season full of confidence, the Spaniard has settled into life at Liverpool like a duck to water and if he can regain his very best form they are more than a match for any side.

The aim for Hodgson this season has to be to get Liverpool back in the Champions League, it will not be easy though with the likes of Spurs and Man City continuing to spend big money while Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United are all expected to be as consistent and strong as ever. Liverpool should be there or thereabouts though if they can pick up one or two more vital players, a left-back is essential with Insua and Aurelio leaving the club while another Striker is also thought to be high on the list whether or not Torres stays at the club. If he can bring in the right players before the season starts then the starting eleven for the Liverpool will start to look strong, it will be a matter of keeping the better players fit as their squad will not be as deep as the likes of City and Spurs who both have mammoth amounts of players.

Of course the hard work is still to do for Hodgson and the players as they start the season with two tough games against Arsenal and Man City, the Sack Race feels it could be a make or break start to the season for Liverpool as they look to build their fragile confidence. He is certainly making all the right noises in his first few weeks in the job and few would be surprised to see Hodgson lead the club to a good finish this season, if he can take the team back into the Champions League it will be considered a successful fist campaign for the former Fulham Manager.
