Mancini Aiming For History In Manchester Derby

Ferguson is desperate to knock City Out
Roberto Mancini is aiming to make history in the 2nd Leg of their League Cup Semi-Final at Old Trafford by taking Man City to a major domestic final for the first time since 1981, City lead rivals United 2-1 after a fiery first leg at Eastlands and the Italian is confident that they can hold onto their advantage in the second leg. Mancini has been in charge of City for a matter of weeks but has done a good job so far and is already becoming a fans favourite with his now trademark blue and white scarf becoming the latest fashion accessory across the blue half of Manchester.
If the former Inter Milan Coach can take City to Wembley then he will turn himself into an instant hero to the City faithful and will serve as a further sign of progress for the big spending owners, the City fan have been starved of success for over 30 years and they are desperate to end that drought this season. Mancini knows that the main priority is a top four finish and Champions League football but a nice trophy along the way would do his stock no harm as well as pleasing the Arab owners who are expecting success. Its not going to be easy though as it is expected to be a hot atmosphere at Old Trafford after the controversial first leg, former United man Carlos Tevez will be centre of attention once again after knocking in two goals in the first leg against his former employees.
Make no mistake about it, Sir Alex Ferguson is itching to get one over on his rivals and would like nothing more than to knock out City in the second leg so it is a tough task facing Mancini and City, they will have to be at their very best to get the result they want on Wednesday night as it will be a pressure cooker atmosphere. Earlier in the season City went to Old Trafford in the league earlier this season and lost 4-3 in a cracking match and the neutrals will be hoping for a repeat, City know that a win or any draw for them will be enough to go to Wembley to face Aston Villa in the first major final of the season.
Roberto Mancini may have only been at Eastlands for a few weeks but the second leg of the Carling Cup Semi-Final against Man United could be crucial for his chances of long term success at City, the Italian is aiming to begin his bid to knock Man United and Sir Alex Ferguson from their lofty perch and he is hoping it will start with a Wembley appearance.
