Maradona Leaves Argentina Post After Battle Of Wills
Diego Maradona has left his roles as National team Boss of Argentina after just 19 games in charge, the feeling had been that he would stay in the job but after an attempt to keep on his entire backroom staff with him his contract has not been renewed. Argentina played a good style of football in the World Cup in South Africa but eventually fell short as they tent to do, they went out with a whimper to Germany but the general thought was that Maradona would stay in the job and be offered a new deal.
When it comes to Maradona though nothing is ever as straight forward asĀ it should be and in the weeks since the tournament there has been various reports coming from both the Manager and the Argentinian FA, Maradona announced earlier this week that he would only sign a new deal if he could keep every single member of his backroom staff right down to the Masseur and the kit man. The General Manager of the team though had different ideas and according to Maradona was itching to see the back of the legendary Striker, Carlos Bilardo has clearly fallen out with Maradona and that is considered one of the reasons the manager has effectively been sacked
The Argentina FA voted against offering Maradona a new deal which is a decision that is sure to be unpopular with the fans and the players who have made it clear they worship the great man, this will leave any new Manager coming into the job in a tough position as he has some big boots to fill. It is a big four years now for the team as they build up to a World Cup in Brazil and with a Copa America to plane for next year it will be a tough assignment, they will no doubt take their time to get the right man but it will important for the new Manager to be given the time he needs to build the squad towards 2014.
