Nigel Adkins Odds On Favourite In Next Southampton Manager Betting
The odds about Nigel Adkins becoming the new Southampton Manager have been slashed in recent days and the Scunthorpe Boss is now the hot favourite to take the reigns at St Marys, it is understood that Southampton will move for Adkins in the next couple of days and could be installed ready for the weekend. The Saints sacked Alan Pardew last week in bizarre circumstances after the team beat Bristol Rovers 4-0, there was clearly a break down in the relationship and it appears that Adkins has been identified by Saints Chairman Nicola Cortese as the man to lead the club to promotion this season.
Nigel Adkins has been in charge of Scunthorpe since 2006 and has taken them into the Championship on two occasions on a shoe string budget, he has done a remarkable job at Glanford Park and managed to keep them in the Division last season while so-called bigger clubs like Sheffield Wednesday went down. The work of Adkins has not gone unnoticed by Chairmen across the country and it now appears he will be off to the south coast, it will be a step down in terms of League position but Southampton have massive potential to return to the big time. Scunthorpe seem to be playing to their very best potential while it could be argued that the Saints have everything in place to return to the Premier League within five years.
The first task for Adkins if and when he is appointed will be to secure automatic promotion from League One back to the Championship, anything else will be deemed a failure for the club and Cortese will be quick to act if he believes the club is falling off track. He certainly showed his ruthless streak in getting rid of Pardew so Nigel Adkins will know that he will need to hit the ground running at St Marys, the bookmakers certainly believe he has the job in the bag with VC Bet.com making a 1/5 favourite at the moment. Should the move for Adkins not come off then the next candidate likely to be considered is Phil Brown, the former Hull City Manager is looking to get back in the game and he would no doubt be interested in the vacancy should Adkins turn down the role.
