Roy Hodgson Facing Up To Huge Challenge At Liverpool

0

If Roy Hodgson was unaware of the challenge he was facing up to at Liverpool he certainly does now following their defeat to Man City on Monday night, the team were swept aside by the big spending boys from Eastlands with Liverpool looking out of their depth at times. In truth Hodgson will have learnt a lot about his players on Monday night with several players going missing at the wrong time, and with only a few days to go until the transfer window slams shut Hodgson is set for a busy few days.

It is clear that Liverpool are short of players following the Rafa Benitez regime and Hodgson has very little time left to resurrect the situation, they are in desperate need of a left-back as well as some creativity out wide and another striker to back up Fernando Torres and David NGog. The problem for Hodgson will be the lack of funds available to him as he scours Europe for bargain deals, he should get some good money from the sale of Javier Mascherano and those funds must be pumped back into the first team squad if they are to be competitive. The midfield of Liverpool in particular is looking thin on the ground at the moment and that will need to be addressed, it could well be a long season for Hodgson unless he is able to bring in the players he needs this week.

Liverpool still look a club in turmoil with the playing squad struggling while the takeover saga showing no sign of ending anytime soon, a number of consortium’s have been linked to the club but so far there has been no news and the club and fans continue to be in limbo. It was hoped that the ownership issue would have been sorted by the end of August but that looks unlikely to happen leaving the Manager with limited transfer funds, Hodgson though will have known this before he took the job and has to be able to improve the overall performance of the players and build confidence. Over the last year the fortunes of the club on the pitch have gone downhill and at the moment Hodgson is facing an almighty fight to halt that decline.

Hodgson has already stated that Champions League football has to be the aim for a club like Liverpool and the fans will demand the same thing, the former Fulham Manager must find a way to get the best out of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres whilst trying to add some creativity that was so lacking at Eastlands on Monday night.
