Fabio Capello has confirmed that he will stand down as manager of the England team after Euro 2012. The Italian confirmed that following the European Champions in Poland and the Ukraine in just under two years time, he will be “too old” and wants to enjoy “life as a pensioner”.

Capello did acknowledge that the Three Lions must qualify for the tournament first but following six points from their opening two games, the campaign could not have got off to a better start for the man who has a lot to do in order to eliminate the criticism follow his sides abysmal display at the World Cup. However, a 4-0 win against Bulgaria and a 3-1 victory in Switzerland, which included some refreshing changes from the ’old guard’ who underachieved in South Africa  has gone some way to helping Capello winning over the fans once again, who will be expecting more of the same when England take on Montenegro at Wembley in the next game en route to the finals in October.

The news that Fabio Capello is standing down will give the FA plenty of time to find his replacement and already names of potential successors are being discussed with the Next England Manager Odds taking shape. These include, favoruite for the job, Harry Redknapp along with Stuart Pearce and Roy Hodgson of the home grown talent whilst Martin O’Neil, Guus Hiddink and Martin Jol head the list of non-English candidates.
