Guardiola Lined Up To Replace Sir Alex at Man United

When will Fergie retire?
Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola is being lined up to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Man United within the next two years it is believed, the Sack Race understands that Guardiola is the preferred choice of Sir Alex himself as he continues to mull over the timing of his impending retirement. The 38-year-old Spaniard has impressed the Scot during his time in charge of the Catalan team and he may want a new challenge after winning all he can at the Nou Camp, added to that are the future Presidential elections at Barca and that may signal the end of his love affair with the Spanish giants. Last season Barca picked up La Liga, the Copa Del Rey and the Champions League playing a stunning style of football, Sir Alex had first hand experience of Guardiola when Barca brushed aside United in the Champions League Final in Rome.
The United hierarchy are thought to want a Manager who can build on the legacy Ferguson has built over the past 20 years and Guardiola could be the ideal man, although there is some doubt as to whether United would prefer to stick with a British Manager. The Old Trafford club have never employed a non-British Manager in their history which could prove a sticking point with some at the club, however times have changed in the Premier League since United last employed a Manager and foreign managers have become the norm in recent years. The Next Man United Manager Odds are continuing to remain interesting as everyone tries to anticipate when Sir Alex will step aside, other names in the frame along with Guardiola at this stage include the likes of Jose Mourinho and Martin O’Neill who are both likely to be interested in heading to Old Trafford.
Its a difficult period at Man United with the club reportedly in £700 million debt with the Glazers struggling to keep the club out of the news, and with the team looking like a shadow of its former self it looks as though the next couple of season’s could be crucial in the clubs future. United have struggled for a creative spark without Ronaldo and Sir Alex is likely to want to get the team in order on the pitch before he steps aside, the 68-year-old has toyed with retiring on a number of occasion but it is thought he is unlikely to manage much past his 70th birthday. It appears at this stage that Pep Guardiola is being sounded out for the Old Trafford job and we could be set for an interesting couple of years as speculation continues to build over the replacement for the most successful Manager in British football history.
