Will Keano Make it Long Term in Football Management?

1

From time to time we will be looking for you our readers for your views on some questions that we think require some debate. This week we would like to look at Roy Keane and whether he will make it long term in the business of football management and with a big premier league club.

The Case For!

Roy Keane has been one of the premier league top players and captains with Manchester United. He is well respected by everyone in the game. He plays it hard but fair and does not mince his words. His first role as a football manager was with Sunderland where he took them from the bottom of the Championship into the premier league in his first season.

The Case Against!

Roy seemed to struggle after his first season in management, leading one to think maybe he is a one hit wonder. His purchases at Sunderland left a lot to be desired. The one thing that maybe works against Keano is that he does not have the empathy with his players that manager unlike Harry Redknapp who has this in buckets. Roy is a bit of a Sergent major and players in this era where they are paid so much just do not react favourably to his style of management.

Roy has a tendency of bailing out if things do not go his way, cue Saipan and so when the going gets tough he would just prefer to be walking his dog. Early days at Ipswich Town leave a lot to be desired.

We would like your input to this discussion.

It was foolish of him to walk straight into a top job, he should have done a League 1 or 2 side for a full season and then let the big boys come after him if he had a proven track records. From what I’ve read about him prior to him going into management he was not a team player unless it suited him, just remind yourself about the Ireland debacle with Mr McCarthy
