Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer was previously the temporary manager of Newcastle United after he was appointed with the aim of keeping the club in the Premier League. Shearer was put in charge for the remainder of the 2008/09 season, but was unable to keep them in the top flight.

Shearer is currently one of the favourites in the Next Ipswich Town Manager betting market.

During his time at St James's Park, Shearer certainly had the back of the Toon Army, but the players were unable to live up to expectation on the pitch and it would prove to be a dark day on Tyneside, as the Newcastle Messiah was unable to save them from the dreaded drop to the second tier of English football.

Since they crashed back to the Championship, Shearer handed the reins back to Chris Hughton who was able to get the Magpies back into the Premier League before becoming the first casualty of the 2010/11 sackrace.

Shearer of course is a Newcastle United legend and is the top scorer in Premier League history playing on Tyneside as well as Blackburn Rovers and Southampton. Shearer was born and bred in Newcastle and they were the team he supported as boy and he will be bidding to keep his beloved team in the Premier League.

Achievements

Shearer started his playing career at Southampton where he was banging in the goals from the off as he famously scored a hat-trick on his full first team debut. He continued scoring for The Saints over the coming years and earned himself a then British record transfer to Blackburn Rovers in 1992 costing £3.3m. Shearer won the Premier League with Blackburn in the 1994/95 season after forming a lethal partnership with Chris Sutton.

Shearer moved to Newcastle for a world record £15m. Despite winning numerous individual awards Shearer never realised his dream of winning a cup with Newcastle.

Job Prospects

Shearer seems quite content with his cushty role on Match of the Day and doesn't look to be returning to management anytime soon. However, he was linked with the Cardiff City vacancy this summer not turned it down after unsuccessful talks.
