Gary Simpson is currently out of work after parting company with Macclesfield Town with nine matches of the season remaining. The League Two side had been been without a win in 16 matches in all competitions, with their Football League status coming under threat.
After a successful career in the Non League spher, Gary Simpson gained his first managerial job at Gainsborough Trinity, where he became player/manager in 1991. However, Simpson left Trinity two years later and went on to play for Arnold Town.
Good friends with Keith Alexander after they had played together at Boston United, Simpson was an integral part of Alexander's achievements working as an assistant to him and also working sometimes as a scout.
During his time with Alexander at Ilkeston Town, Northwich Victoria, Lincoln City, Peterborough United and finally Macclesfield Town, Simpson was an able assistant who was a real help to Alexander.
However, when his friend and mentor sadly passed away in March 2010, Simpson took over the mangerial duties as caretaker and a month later was appointed as the outright manager.
With his contract now inforce into the end of the 2013 season, Simpson will be looking to cement Macclesfield's League status and will look to propel the Silkmen up League Two.
