Stuart McCall dealt the dreaded vote of confidence by Bradford City

Bradford City have handed their manager Stuart McCall the “dreaded vote of confidence” after a run of four straight defeats raised fears over his future at Valley Parade.

Bradford’s owners released a statement on Wednesday night - see tweet below - in which they declared their “100 per cent support for McCall” following five defeats in seven games, which leaves the Bantams seven points adrift of the League One automatic promotion spots.

The fact that the club have decided to come out and publicly back their boss is a concern. The vote of confidence has been the curse of many a manager in the past, and instead of easing McCall’s fears, it may have an adverse effect, especially if Bradford slip to a fifth consecutive loss this weekend.

McCall, who desperately needs funds for new players, responded to the statement in an interview with West Yorkshire Daily:
