Is this the week Chelsea replace Antonio Conte with Maurizio Sarri?by Jack Kitson / 11 June 2018, 08:37Tweet
Chelsea’s manager saga could finally reach a conclusion this week with the Blues set to replace Antonio Conte with Maurizio Sarri.
Sportitalia reports that Chelsea are attempting to sive through the final contract complexities with Napoli, with whom Sarri is still contracted to, despite the club recently appointing Carlo Ancelotti as their new head coach.
Italian journalist Matteo Pedrosi, who works for CalcioMercato, claimed on Sunday that Chelsea could appoint Sarri “a matter of days” (see Tweet below).
Pedrosi also said that Gonzalo Higuain, Elseid Hysaj, Piotr Zielinski and Kalidou Koulibaly could all be heading in the direction of Stamford Bridge too.
Meanwhile, a separate story today (Monday) links Blues midfielder N’Golo Kante with a switch to PSG.
If talks between Chelsea, Napolo and Sarri do crumble, then the London club could well resort to their back-up option Laurent Blanc (5/1), whereas Fulham’s Slavisa Jokanovic and Barcelona boss Luis Enrique can be backed at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively.
Meanwhile, it’s not out of the question to see Conte remain at the helm, although in truth a departure looks inevitable as he bids to seek out a new challenge in the managerial arena.
In the space of two seasons Conte, who is set to bag a juicy £9m in compensation, lifted the Premier League and FA Cup.
We wouldn’t blame Conte if he opts to kick back, put his feet up and enjoy the upcoming World Cup, before waiting for another high-profile job to crop up next season, which it will do.
#Sarri #Chelsea, it's a matter of days: the former Napoli coach is Abramovich's first choice. To resolve Conte-situation, but this could (and should) be the decisive week. Martusciello in the staff. Players required: #Zielinski #Higuain #Hysaj #Koulibaly. #CFC— Matteo Pedrosi (@MatteoPedrosi) June 10, 2018
