Mauricio Pellegrino has only been out-of-work for a fortnight but the Argentine could be on the cusp of making a swift return to management after bookmakers installed him as the new odds-on favourite for the Crystal Palace job.

Pellegrino, who has recently been linked with Leeds and Middlesbrough, was hovering around the 11/2 mark on Monday, but today (Tuesday) he’s as short as 2/5 (Bet Victor) to venture over to England with the Eagles.

Palace have been searching for a new boss since Sam Allardyce’s unexpected departure last month following the conclusion of the season.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, the now Watford manager Marco Silva, and ex Leicester gaffer Claudio Ranieri have all been hotly linked with the club, but it’s now Pellegrino who is in pole position for the Selhurst Park post.

Many will remember Pellegrino from his Liverpool days in 2005, while he went on to become a coach at the club between 2008 and 2010.

Pellegrino’s first spell in the dugout came two years later with Valencia, but a two-year contract was cut short after just six months.

Pellegrino then returned to his homeland, managing Estudiantes and Independiente, but opted to come back to Spain in 2016, taking charge of Alaves for the 2016/17 season, leading the newly promoted club to an impressive 9th place finish and to the final of the Copa del Rey.

Just two days after losing out to Barcelona in the final the 45-year-old announced his exit, and now according to Wikipedia he’s the manager of Premier League new boys Brighton…!
