Sunderland boss David Moyes the new favourite for the sackby Jack Kitson / 16 March 2017, 12:06Tweet
So a sixth Premier League manager has just had his contract ripped to shreds - Aitor Karanka (Middlesbrough) - yet one beleaguered boss desperately still clings onto his post. Step forward David Moyes.
If someone had said at the start of the season that six gaffers would be axed come mid-March, then 99% of people would have envisioned Moyes being one of them, yet the Sunderland incumbent somehow remains in the dugout.
This is despite Sunderland being cemented to the foot of the Premier League table, six points adrift of safety with only nine matches remaining.
The Black Cats have picked up just 19 points from 27 matches this term, winning only five games, and only one from their last 10 matches stretching back to before Christmas.
No team has lost more games (18), while only their North East rivals Middlesbrough (19) have scored fewer goals than Moyes’ men (24).
Sunderland head into Saturday’s crunch game at home to travel-shy Burnley looking to avoid their fourth consecutive defeat, however should the Clarets claim their first win on the road this term, then it could be curtains for Moyes in the international break.
