Alan Pardew linked with a shock move to Sheffield Wednesday

In one of the more perplexing rumours of the week Alan Pardew has been linked with a shock switch to Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls are currently battling it out with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield for a prized place in the play-off final, in a match which is annually billed as the "richest game in football".

However, regardless of whether boss Carlos Carvalhal leads Wednesday up to the top-tier or not, the 'ever reliable' Daily Mail is reporting that the club have set their sights on the Silver Fox that is Pardew.

Ouch.

Pards has been out-of-work since December when he was sacked by Crystal Palace with the club dangling down in 17th place.

Sam Allardyce came in the other direction and proceeded to keep the Eagles soaring in the Premier League, with their status confirmed last weekend following a 4-0 hammering of Hull.

Pardew has recently been linked with a switch to Norwich and Middlesbrough, but the latest Wednesday rumours make for surprise reading.

Carvalhal, who took charge in 2015, led the Owls to the play-off final last season, but after losing out to Hull he's determined to go one step better this time around.
