Mark McGhee Appointed Bristol Rovers Manager

Mark McGhee has today been appointed as the new manager of League Two side Bristol Rovers. The Scot, who incredibly becomes the sixth person to take charge of the club in just over a year, succeeds Paul Buckle who was sacked at the start of the month following a disappointing run of results. McGhee has signed a two-and-a-half year deal and his first match in charge will be away to high-flying Cheltenham on Saturday.

McGhee had been out of work for just over year since leaving Scottish Premier League club Aberdeen back in December 2010. He has 20 years of managerial experience and has previously been in charge of the likes of Brighton, Millwall and Wolves. The 54-year-old has revealed that he will be allowed to make a few signings as he begins the task of turning the club's fortunes around and propelling them up the table. Rovers are currently 18th following a torrid run of just one win from their last nine league matches.

Rovers have been priced at 4/1 by Paddy Power to come away from Saturday's match at Cheltenham with the three points. Rovers won their last away outing against Hereford and now with the boost of a new manager in the dugout will be looking to get off to the best possible start. It will certainly be a tough task as second place Cheltenham have won nine matches at the Abbey Business Stadium this season and are currently on a fantastic run, picking up 26 points from a possibly 30 since the end of October. Cheltenham are available at 4/6 for the win, while a draw is priced at 13/5.
