Bolton started the season as the favourites for promotion to the Premier League, however, just half-a-dozen games into the campaign and their manager's job is on the line. The club kept faith in Owen Coyle following the club's relegation last season but his position is becoming increasingly under threat due to Bolton's sluggish start. Following the mid-week defeat to Birmingham media outlets are now reporting that the 46-year-old has just two games to save his job.
Bolton are currently 15th in the Championship, having lost three of their opening six matches. While their home form has been decent (seven points from three games) their away form has been disastrous, with three straight defeats on the road. Bolton travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday looking to record their first point away from home, in which they are available at 9/4 to do so with Paddy Power. Bolton can be backed for the win at 7/4, while Wednesday are the narrow 6/4 favourites to claim all three points.
Coyle has been in charge of the Trotters since January 2010 after controversially leaving Burnley, with his first league win in charge of the Trotters ironically coming against his former club. Coyle guided Bolton to 14th at the end of the season and then in his first full campaign in charge he once again led them to a 14th place finish. However, a miserable 2011/12 season followed with the club's 11-year stay in the Premier League coming to an end.
BetVictor have installed Alan Curbishley as the 4/1 favourite in the Next Bolton Manager Odds market (see below). The former West Ham and Charlton boss, who is currently working as a TV pundit, has been linked with numerous jobs since leaving the Hammers in 2008 but as of yet has not returned to the management arena. Rafa Benitez is next in the running with odds of 8/1 but the former Liverpool boss is believed to be only interested in working in the Premier League or another top European league. Other managers featuring in the betting include Steve Bruce, Lee Clarke and Dave Jones.
