Roberto Di Matteo now looks to be in pole position to take the Chelsea Manager's job on a full time basis after the Italian lead the Blues to Champions League glory at the weekend. The Italian was handed the role on a temporary basis back in March but was only thought to be keeping the seat warm for a bigger name to come into the role in the Summer. That could be all about to change though after he master minded the run that has seen Chelsea finally lift the Champions League trophy in Munich.
Roman Abramovich has made it his personal crusade since taking over the club to win the Champions League and after a number of near misses he has finally realised that dream. Much of the credit has to go to Roberto Di Matteo who has managed to get the best out of the players over the past couple of months which culminated with their defeat of Bayern Munich on penalties on Saturday night.
The Chelsea team looked in disarray under Andre Villas-Boas during the first part of the season but following his departure it is Di Matteo has turned the fortunes of the club around. Chelsea have picked up the FA Cup and the Champions League over the last few weeks and with that in mind Di Matteo is the odds on favourite in the Next Chelsea Manager Betting.
The general feeling over the past few weeks has been that Di Matteo would be on his way out in the Summer with the likes of Fabio Capello and Pep Guardiola still being linked with Stamford Bridge. The Champions League success has put the cat amongst the pigeons though with Di Matteo surely jumping back to the front of the queue with Chelsea looking to build on their success over the next couple of years.
It is hard to imagine Abramovich looking past Di Matteo now, he has brought the best out of the players and seems to have built a strong team unit over the past couple of months. The betting surrounding the hot seat at Chelsea has been an up and down one recently but in Di Matteo we now have a clear odds on favourite for the role with the season now at an end.
