After three months without a single sacking the Premier League has witnessed two casualties in the space of 48 hours. Roberto Di Matteo became the first top flight manager to be axed on Tuesday and now the under-fire QPR boss Mark Hughes has become the second gaffer to lose his job following a dismal start to the season.
As predicted on the Sack Race last week the match against fellow strugglers Southampton proved to be crucial. Hughes leaves the London club rock-bottom of the table without a single win this season. Questions will be asked about the timing of the sacking - with QPR travelling to Man Utd on Saturday – but the majority of supporters will no doubt be pleased with the decision.
Attention will now turn to Hughes’ successor, with Harry Redknapp the overwhemling favourite in the Next QPR Manager Odds. Di Matteo is next in the running, followed by the likes of Sven Goran Eriksson, Jurgen Klinsman and Alan Curbishley.
