Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom linked with Norwich Cityby Jack Kitson / 24 March 2017, 14:16Tweet
Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom has become the latest gaffer to be linked with the Norwich City vacancy, while Huddersfield Town’s David Wagner also features in the betting.
On Thursday Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale was thrown into the mix at 4/1, however he’s since drifted out to 25/1, with Heckingbottom now the 5/2 favourite at the summit of the market, ahead of Roy Hodgson, Ryan Giggs.
Terriers boss Wagner has been cut from 25/1 to 6/1, although this link is likely to be due to Huddersfield’s director of football Stuart Webber making the move to Norfolk.
Heckingbottom made 15 appearances for Norwich back during the 2002/03 season, before moving on to Bradford, and then the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Mansfield.
The 39-year-old has worked wonders as the boss of Barnsley, leading the Yorkshire outfit to the Football League Trophy and League One promotion double in 2015/16, and it’s no surprise to see him in the frame for the Canaries post, although a sudden switch appears extremely unlikely given that there are only eight matches to go this season, however the summer could be a possibility.
Barnsley have enjoyed a decent return to the Championship this term - they are currently in 11th place after 38 games - however, back-to-back promotions appears unlikely as they are 11 points adrift of the top-6 with only eight games to go.
