The speculation surrounding who exactly will become the next Aston Villa Manager is continuing unabated and it is Paul Lambert who is the Manager under the spotlight. The Norwich boss has impressed everyone over the past couple of years as he has lead the Canaries from League One to mid table in the Premier League in little more than two years.
Lambert had a cracking career as a player with the highlight coming as he picked up the Champions League Trophy with Dortmund back in 1997 and he seems destined to manage at the top level. Alex McLeish was sacked as Villa manager at the end of the season after the team narrowly avoided relegation after a terrible run of results towards the back end of the season.
Chairman Randy Lerner has already been out to Norway in a failed attempt to woo Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and attention could now turn to Paul Lambert. The Scot has been slashed in the Next Aston Villa Manager Betting following a successful season at Carrow Road and it will be interesting to see if welcomes a potential approach from Villa.
The Norwich Manager reacted angrily to questions regarding his future in a press conference the other day and it remain to be seen if he is tempted by Villa. There is no doubt that a move to Villa Park would be a step forward for Lambert but it does appear that he is building something good at Carrow Road and he may want to see the project through.
Randy Lerner is also thought to be thinking of approaching Roberto Martinez once again this Summer after the Spaniard spurned the chance to head to Villa Park 12 months ago. Martinez is also in the mix for the Liverpool job and but the bookmakers believe he and Lambert are the two main contenders to replace McLeish. The fans will be hoping an appointment is made quickly with next season likely to be crucial for the club as they look to get back into the top half of the Premier League table as soon as possible.
