Steve Kean Set For The Sack

Rumours are rife that Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean is finally set to lose his job, despite the club's impressive start to the season. Reports reveal that the club's owners, Venky's, are today (Monday) expected to make an announcement, with the curtains expected to be closed on Kean's spell as manager. The news will no doubt be music to the ears of numerous Rovers supporters, many of whom have been campaigning for the Scot to be sent packing for a long time.

Kean's position has been under threat ever since he replaced Sam Allardyce at the helm in December 2010. The club narrowly avoided relegation down to the Championship that season after clinching a win away to Wolves on the final day. However, the 2011/12 campaign proved to be a torrid affair from start-to-finish, with dismal results on the field coupled with a plethora of protests off it. But, despite relegation down to the Championship and the overwhelming pressure on Kean’s shoulders, he somehow managed to cling onto his job.

Venky's kept the faith in Kean and reportedly set him a 16-point target after seven games but Friday's defeat at home to Middlesbrough leaves the club with 14. Kean was subject to a barrage of abuse during and after the match and even though the club are currently flying high in second, it appears that his days at the club are now over.

If, as expected, Kean is dismissed, Eric Black is expected to take caretaker charge. The Next Blackburn Rovers Manager Odds are not yet available but the Sack Race will bring you all the latest odds when the bookmakers release them. At the moment Tim Sherwood is being linked with the hotseat, as are the likes of Harry Redknapp and Mick McCarthy.
