Paul Lambert hot favourite for Sheffield Wednesday jobby Jack Kitson / 02 January 2018, 15:50Tweet
Paul Lambert could be set to return to management with Sheffield Wednesday after his odds were cut to just 1/5 in the next Owls manager market.
The former Aston Villa and Norwich City boss has been out-of-work since leaving Wolves at the end of last season, but he’s now the scorching hot odds-on favourite to be the man who replaces Carlos Carvalhal in the Owls nest.
Prior to his 33 game spell in charge of Wolves - who are now top of the Championship under Nuno Santo - Lambert also managed Blackburn Rovers for 33 matches. The Scot previously oversaw Aston Villa for three years, and enjoyed a superb spell at Norwich with whom he led up to the Premier League, while he also held posts at Colchester, Wycombe, and Livingston.
Following the Christmas Eve departure of Carvalhal - now at Swansea - Sheff Wed turned to caretaker Lee Bullen who has won one and lost two of his three games in charge, which includes a confidence crushing 3-0 loss at home to Burton on New Year’s Day.
The Yorkshire club, six points above the relegation zone in 16th, are reportedly eager to appoint a new manager early on this month, and if the betting is believed then that man will be Lambert, who would definitely fall into the substance over style category.
However, Championship next manager markets are notoriously volatile so it’s perhaps worth checking out a few of the other contenders, including Steve McClaren (5/1) and Gus Poyet (12/1), while Andre Villas Boas is a surprise addition at 12/1.
Wednesday, who have only one win in 10 matches, are next in action on Saturday away to Carlisle in the FA Cup third round, which is followed by a trip to fierce rivals Sheffield United in the Steel City derby.
