Mark Hughes is feeling the heat at QPR following their woeful start to the new campaign. The Welshman's expensively assembled squad has so far failed to gel, reflected in their position at the foot of the table, with just two points from their opening six matches. The club's 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham on Monday has piled the pressure on Hughes and as a result the bookmakers have reacted by installing the 48-year-old as the new favourite in the Next Premier League To Be Sacked betting market.
QPR narrowly avoided relegation back down to the Championship last season and having splashed the cash in the summer the West London club were expected to make an impact this time around. Four defeats from six matches is simply not good enough and if Hughes fails to lead his struggling side to victory in at least one of their upcoming games against West Brom, Everton and Arsenal then he will surely be on his way out.
For the time being Hughes still has the backing of wealthy chairman Tony Fernandes but if results fail to improve then he is in real danger of becoming the first top flight manager to lose his job. Harry Redknapp is currently the hot favourite in the Next QPR Manager Odds market, with the likes of Alan Curbishley, Gus Poyet and Alan Shearer also in the mix.
