Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri favourite for the sack

by Jack Kitson / 06 February 2017, 09:57

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is the favourite for the sack, just nine months after hoisting the Premier League title.

Leicester stunned their then title-rivals Man City exactly a year ago, which propelled the club five points clear at the summit of the table.

However, fast-forward to February 2017 and the struggling club are embroiled in a relegation battle after Sunday's hopeless 3-0 loss at home to Man Utd left the Foxes (16th) one point above the relegation zone, while it extended their winless run to five games, the last four of which have been defeats.

Will Leicester now do something that would have been unthinkable a couple of months ago (50/1), and actually sack Ranieri?

Unlikely, but definitely not out of the question.

Results on the field have been shocking. The players are desperately short of confidence, and it appears that the dressing room is far from harmonious, spelling serious trouble for Ranieri, whose odds for the chop have shrunk to just 6/4 with Bet Victor.

Leicester face rivals Derby in an FA Cup replay on Wednesday evening, before returning to league action on Sunday when they they venture off to Wales for a tricky trip to Swansea, who have won three of their last five matches, while they were unfortunate not to take anything from their last game at Man City.

Ranieri’s men head to the Liberty Stadium still looking for their first away victory as defending champions. The confidence-crushed club have only picked up three points from a dozen matches on the road, and a fifth straight defeat this weekend would pile the pressure on the 2016 FIFA Coach of the Year.
