Hereford United have started their search for a new manager following the dismissal of Simon Davey as the club’s manager. The Bulls currently sit bottom of League Two after just one win from their first ten games with the club stating “the club has decided to terminate their (Davey and assistant Andy Fensome) contracts after an unacceptable start to the season”.

Davey only took charge at Edgar Street during the summer after John Trewick was dismissed after just one season in charge. The club will now seek to appoint it’s third manager in a year after Graham Turner lasted 14 years in the job before stepping aside in 2009.

The Club’s physio, Jamie Pitman, has been put in temporary charge and is likely to be in the dugout on Saturday for the visit of table toppers Port Vale. However, it is thought that the Hereford baord will seek a more experienced replacement for the long term.

Davey is the second League Two manager in a week to lose his job after Chris Sutton was sacked by Lincoln City and the former Barnsley boss must look to rebuild his managerial career elsewhere after also lasting just 10 games at Darlington at the end of last season before he was axed.

Sir Alex Ferguson has made very few mistakes since taking over at Man United all those years ago but even he will have to admit that choosing to effectively play a reserve team in the Champions League against Rangers on Tuesday night backfired on him. The Manager made ten changes to the team that drew with Everton on Saturday and despite having the lion share of possession they rarely looked like scoring, credit also has to be given to Walter Smith and Rangers who were organised and hard to break down to claim a famous point for the troubled Glasgow giants.

In truth United deserved nothing more than the goalless draw they got from the game, being the home team the pressure was on them to take the attack to Rangers which was something they were unable to do with the side they had out. Ferguson believed he had a team that could do the job but in leaving the likes of Nani, Berbatov, Scholes and Patrice Evra among others out of the squad the Manager has left himself open to criticism, there was a quiet atmosphere in the stadium as a result and that seemed to filter through onto the pitch. There was a lot of huff and puff from United but they created very few clear cut chances, it will be of concern to Ferguson following that last minute capitulation against Everton at the weekend and they are already playing catch up to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Ferguson was able to bring Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney into the side which he will be pleased with Rooney though was nowhere near his bets once again and that will be a worry ahead of the massive game with Liverpool on Sunday. The game with their arch rivals was clearly on the mind of Sir Alex and he took his eye of the ball in Europe, there is still a long way to go in the group of course and it would be a huge surprise if United were not to qualify comfortably for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

Sir Alex will be aware that his decision backfired against Rangers but he will be hoping it will pay off when they face Liverpool on Sunday, if the team pick up three points there then the Manager will no doubt point towards his decision to rest some of his key names in midweek. Likewise a defeat against Liverpool will heap the pressure on the Manager ahead of a long season, the United squad is looking a little thin on the ground with Chelsea and Arsenal starting the season well and cross town rivals Man City building a formidable squad. It would be foolish to write off Sir Alex Ferguson as we know, he has bounced back many times before and few would be surprised to see him do it again but he does face one of the biggest challenges of his career over the next few months at Old Trafford.

Fabio Capello has confirmed that he will stand down as manager of the England team after Euro 2012. The Italian confirmed that following the European Champions in Poland and the Ukraine in just under two years time, he will be “too old” and wants to enjoy “life as a pensioner”.

Capello did acknowledge that the Three Lions must qualify for the tournament first but following six points from their opening two games, the campaign could not have got off to a better start for the man who has a lot to do in order to eliminate the criticism follow his sides abysmal display at the World Cup. However, a 4-0 win against Bulgaria and a 3-1 victory in Switzerland, which included some refreshing changes from the ’old guard’ who underachieved in South Africa has gone some way to helping Capello winning over the fans once again, who will be expecting more of the same when England take on Montenegro at Wembley in the next game en route to the finals in October.

The news that Fabio Capello is standing down will give the FA plenty of time to find his replacement and already names of potential successors are being discussed with the Next England Manager Odds taking shape. These include, favoruite for the job, Harry Redknapp along with Stuart Pearce and Roy Hodgson of the home grown talent whilst Martin O’Neil, Guus Hiddink and Martin Jol head the list of non-English candidates.

Gianfranco Zola and Phil Brown have emerged as the early front runners in the odds on who will be named next Southampton manager following the news that Alan Pardew had left St Mary’s. Zola, who left Premier League side West Ham United at the end of last season is the 9/2 favourite with bookmaker Skybet to take over from Pardew who was sacked just three league games in to the new season. The Italian is believed to want to stay in management following his departure from Upton Park but with his next move is unlikely to be in the top flight and a drop to Southampton could be a realistic opportunity for Zola to continue his learning as a manager with a club who have realistic ambitions of promotion back to the Championship.

Phil Brown has been out of work since leaving Hull in March and like Zola, will probably have to take a drop down a level or two to find his next managerial position and the Southampton job is likely to appeal but whether he would be the choice of Saints fans remains to be seen and the 5/1 about him being named the next boss seems a little on the short side.

In the statement issued by Southampton following the sacking of Alan Pardew, the club said its targets were for “sustained and significant progress for the first team and football development centre”, which suggests that there will be an increased emphasis on the club’s youth programme and if that is to be the case then current Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe, could fit the bill. At 32, Howe is the youngest manager in the Football League and has a growing reputation after guiding Bouremouth’s young side to promotion in to League One despite a transfer embargo. The geography between Bournemouth and Southampton would mean that Howe would not have to relocate and given his profile, he is sure to be a popular choice amongst fans and at 8/1 with Victor Chandler (just 4/1 with Skybet) could be a good bet at this early stage.

Other names in the running include ex Saints player Iain Dowie, Steve Clarke, Paul Tisdale, Paul Ince, former manager Glenn Hoddle and current caretaker boss, Dean Wilkins.

Kevin Blackwell has parted company with Sheffield United just two league games in to the new season following the sides 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers. A statement from the club said the decision was made via mutual consent but it is believed that following chants of ‘Blackwell out’ throughout the game after going three goals down after just twenty that the likelihood is that the decision wasn’t a difficult one for either party to make.

Blackwell has been in charge at Bramall Lane since February 2008 and guided the Blades to the Championship play-off final in 2009. However, a disappointing season last term followed by a draw and two defeats to open the current campaign, including a 2-0 cup loss at Hartlepool left the United fans feeling the need to make their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs known.

The search will now begin for a replacement to take over at Sheffield United with usual suspects already being linked to the vacancy including current Coach, Gary Speed, Iain Dowie, Chris Coleman and Gareth Southgate.

Next Sheffield Untied Manager Odds

The breaking news on Monday morning is that Phil Brown has been put on gardening leave by his club, Hull City. The news comes just days after it was revealed that two of his players, Jimmy Bullard and Nick Barmby were seen fighting in front of the Women’s Institute by the River Humber last week.

It has yet to emerge whether the incident is directly related to Brown being relieved of his duties or whether it is Hull City’s Premier League form. The Tigers currently sit second bottom of the table having lost their last four games on the bounce and combined with the revelations about the bust up between players, the two incidents may have been the final straw for Brown who has been in charge at the KC Stadium since December 2006, during which time he guided the team to promotion and are now in their second season in the Premiership.

Assistant manager, Brian Horton, along with Steve Parkin will take charge of training and could be in charge of Saturday’s crucial relegation battle away at Portsmouth if the issue has not been resolved by then.

In the mean time, expect the bookmakers to be rubbing their hands as they prepare the next Hull manager odds ahead of what is sure to be popular market, especially at this stage of the season.

We are just a few months away from the opening game of England’s World Cup campaign against the USA in Rustenburg but Fabio Capello is already facing his first selection headache, its not whether or not David Beckham should be in the squad or whether Michael Owen has done enough to be on the plane as he was expecting it to be in the build up to South Africa. Of course the Italian is now faced with the tough decision over whether or not to keep John Terry as the Captain of the England Team in the light of recent allegations about an extra marital affair with the former girlfriend of Wayne Bridge.

Terry has been plastered all over the front and back of the tabloids for days now and there is no sign of the speculation dying down anytime soon, this has left Fabio Capello with a tough and perhaps crucial decision to make over his future. The FA have said that it is Capello’s decision as to what happens with Terry but they are also under pressure to act on the matter with public interest growing by the second, they and Capello will want to clear the whole mess up as quickly as possible with the World Cup looming an a friendly against Egypt on the horizon at the start of March.

The main issue surely lies in one question and that is; Have John Terry’s actions affected morale within the England Camp? There is no better man that Capello to answer that question and it is almost impossible to form an opinion on that unless speaking to other squad members as well as the coaching staff which Capello is bound to do. Capello has been a strong disciplinarian since taking th England job and that is not a good sign for JT, Capello may well want to show a sign of force and that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated by any member of the squad in a World Cup year. Having said that, Capello thought Terry was the man for the job when he took over and he may want to back his man all the way in the hope that the whole mess will blow over in a couple of weeks, that of course is a huge risk if their is discontent within the ranks as being reported.

Only Capello will know if he was going to select Bridge as the second left-back in the World Cup squad and that will now need careful consideration, if Terry and Bridge do play together in an England shirt then the press interest will be huge every time they pass the ball to each other. It will be a big shame if Wayne Bridge retires from England duty as a result of this scandal as is being reported, but with the World Cup just around the corner but there may be no other option for the former Chelsea player who has said he will not be commenting on the scandal at any stage. There are several names in the frame to replace John Terry in the Next England Captain Betting with Steven Gerrard the obvious choice to replace him, Rio Ferdinand is another choice but has proven injury prone this season, an interesting outside bet would be Wayne Rooney who is in great form and may relish the chance to lead the side.

Wayne Bridge is a well liked player by all accounts and if senior England players are upset with John Terry then Capello will have no choice but to strip the Chelsea Captain of the national armband, Capello is set to make his decision in the next few days and the Sack Race like all England fans will be watching the story with interest. This could well be the biggest moment in the England career of Fabio Capello, the wrong decision from the Gaffer here and the World Cup hopes of a nation could go down the drain.

The Premier League is as unforgiving they come! Just ask Paul Hart, Gary Megson or Mark Hughes, all of whom will testify as much after their experiences in recent weeks. However, with the merry-go-round slowing down with all managerial vacancies currently filled, attention is cast upon who will be the next top flight boss to feel the raft of his employers.

Gianfranco Zola shot to the top of bookmakers next Premier League manager to leave odds following the news that David Gold and David O’Sullivan had took over the ownership of West Ham United, fuelling rumours that they would relieve the Italian of his duties in favour of bringing in their own man. However, the former Birmingham City owners reacted to those rumours stating that they have no intention of parting company with Zola. Therefore, his position as favourite and odds of 5/4 makes little appeal, forcing would-be punters to look elsewhere for the the next victim in the Sack Race.

The odds on Rafa Benitez have continued to shorten in the betting as Liverpool’s poor run of form shows no signs of letting up, with the Liverpool boss now as short 15/8 with Skybet. However, despite the gradual turning of the Anfield faithful against the man once considered the Messiah for bringing the European Cup back to Merseyside, Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has given the Spaniard his personal backing, stating “if you were to compile a list of the top five coaches and managers around the world, Benitez would definitely be on that list” before adding he thinks the current run of form is no more than “a blip” for the Reds. The question therefore remains how much longer has Rafa got but Gillett’s comments would suggest that they are in no rush to begin looking for a new man for the Anfield hot-seat.

With Zola and Benitez seemingly safe for the immediate future, some of the Premier League’s other managers come in to the reckoning as being contenders for next in line for the chop. Sam Allardyce and Phil Brown are both continually the subject of rumours concerning their futures at Blackburn and Hull respectively but both are experienced in relegation battles and whilst results may not be consistently good, they are not consistently bad, meaning both should be safe for at least the foreseeable future.

The one man who can’t be considered safe and looks a big price at 25/1 (with Skybet) to be the next Premiership manager to leave is Mick McCarthy, whose Wolverhampton Wanderers side are precariously positioned just once place above the relegation zone but on the same number of points as Hull who sit one place below them. Wolves are without a league point or goal in three matches now and things don’t look set to get any easier for the Black Country club with Liverpool next up at Molineux before three away games at Hull, West Ham and Birmingham. Failure to pick up at least one win from these four matches would really see the pressure mount on McCarthy who has already upset Wolves fans recently when fielding a weakened side for the team’s recent trip to Man Utd. This is enough for the so-called ‘betting experts’ in the Sack Race office to think 25/1 is good value and have already had couple of quid on the former Republic of Ireland and Sunderland boss being the next Premier League manager to be out of work.

It is understood that Sam Allardyce is coming under increasing pressure at Ewood Park following a poor run of results and the Sack Race understands that the former Bolton Manager has just a few games to save his bacon, results as well as performances have slipped in recent weeks and the fans as well as the board are thought to be getting twitchy with Big Sam. Added to that is the fact that former Rovers Boss Mark Hughes is now back on the scene following his departure from Man City and he may well be ready to return to Ewood Park, Hughes was an immensely popular figure during his tenure with the fans and they would jump at the chance to have him back at the helm.

Although the club are sat in mid-table they lie just three points above the relegation zone, and it is believed the board are worried about the club slipping into a relegation dog fight if results continue the way they have been, their most recent result was the 4-1 reverse at Man City on Monday which clearly angered Allardyce. The style of football that Big Sam is using at Ewood Park is also coming under fire from fans with the direct style of football thought to be proving unpopular with some members of the playing staff as well as the punters.

Allardyce has been in charge at Blackburn for just over a year after taking over from Paul Ince with the team deep in relegation trouble, the team did pull away from the relegation zone last term but they have failed to kick on this season which is worrying for the fans. Next up for Blackburn is the Carling Cup semi-Final against Aston Villa which is then followed by a crucial league game against Fulham which may well decide the future for Allardyce, defeats in those games and it could be Adios Big Sam!

Another day and another new name has shot to the top of the Next Burnley Manager Betting as the saga continues to rumble on, Doncaster Manager Sean O’Driscoll is the latest name to be linked with the job at Turf Moor and that has been reflected in the latest betting. Burnley fans will be eager to get a new man in place as soon as possible following the departure of Owen Coyle to Bolton last week, Burnley have had a decent start to the season but are by no means clear of the relegation zone which will be a worry for Clarets fans.

Sean O’Driscoll has built up a fantastic reputation in the last couple of seasons both with former club Bournemouth and of course Doncaster who he guided to the Championship, his teams are known for their fine passing brand of football that is easy on the eye and Burnley fans will be hoping to see that at Turf Moor if O’Driscoll takes the helm. There is no indication at this stage as to whether or not O’Driscoll would be interested in the job but he maybe ready for a new challenge having been at the Keepmoat Stadium for a few years now, the lure of the Premier League may prove too much which will be a worry for Doncaster fans who hold him in high regard.

There are still several other names in the frame for the job with Brian Laws still being considered as reported by the Sack Race yesterday, other names in the Next Burnley Manager Betting include MK Dons Boss Paul Ince, Paul Jewell, and Lee Clark among several others. However, it appears that the quiet and calm Sean O’Driscoll is the new front runner for the Turf Moor hot seat, the board at Burnley will be eager to wrap things up as soon as possible with the side heading to Old Trafford on Saturday to face Man United.
