Paul Cook is the manager of Chesterfield after he left fellow League Two side Accrington Stanley. The clubs agreed compensation for Cook who succeed John Sheridan at the helm.

Chesterfield sacked Sheridan just four games into the new season. The League Two side had lost two and drew one of their opening league matches, as well as being dumped out of the Capital One Cup at the first hurdle.

The Spireites had been a club on the upward curve over the past few years only to suffer relegation back down to League Two last season. Their main target for the upcomign campaign will be promotion back up to League One, in which they are one of the favourites to do so.

The newly opened stadium has seen Chesterfield take a massive step forward in recent times with over 10,000 people now able to attend home games. The ground is one of the very best at League One level and will allow them to grow if their on field fortunes continue to move in the right direction.

2011 saw Chesterfield claim promotion to League One and they will be desperate to maintain that status for the long term good of the club. They face a tough task though if recent results are anything to go by with John Sheridan overseeing a relegation battle this season.

Perhaps the most memorable spell in the recent history of Chesterfield came in 1997 when they went all the way to the FA Cup Semi-Finals. In fact they were a whisker away from making the final after pushing Premier League Middlesbrough to a replay before finally losing.

Sheridan has been at the helm of the club since 2009 and remains a popular figure having led them into League One but after suffering relegation last season he will have to motivate his tropps back to winning ways in order to get them straight back in the third tier.
