These Odds are subject to change
Scotland are currently managed by former Ipswich Town boss George Burley who is trying to lead them to a World Cup for the fist time since France 1998. Scotland have struggled to qualify for the Major Championships in recent times with some Managers such as Walter Smith and Alex McLeish taking the Tartan Army close but ultimately falling short at the final hurdle.
Current Performance
Scotland have been up and down so far in their qualification for the 2010 World Cup with some decent results mixed in with some particularly average ones. They currently lie second in the group several points behind the runaway leaders the Netherlands who ave already sealed their spot in South Africa. This group now is a race for second place with all four of the other teams still in contention. The Scots will have a big double header of matches in September which could go along way to deciding their fate.
Second place in the group will mean a Play-Off match against another team to qualify for 2010 and that may well be considered a successful campaign for Scotland no matter the result of the Play-Off. That will be the sole focus for George Burley who knows achieving that runners-up spot may well decide his future as well as the teams fate.
Scotland Managers
Scotland are normally a nation who like to give their Managers time to build a squad and that is highlighted by Craig Brown who was in charge of the Tartan Army for nine years. His successor Berti Vogts however only lasted two years at the helm following a string of bad results so that is a warning sign for George Burley. One problem that the Scots have had in recent years is when Managers like Walter Smith and Alex McLeish leave the job from their own free will for what they consider to be bigger jobs.
