Reading have named Steve Clarke as their news manager, less than 24 hours after sacking Nigel Adkins. The former West Brom gaffer makes his return to the dugout after a year's hiatus, and he will now be tasked with igniting the Royals' season following a poor run of form under Adkins.

Recent History

Reading won the Championship in fine style back in 2006, finishing a whopping 16 points clear of second placed Sheffield United and 25 points ahead of third placed Watford. In their first season in the Premier League Reading surprised everyone with an impressive eighth place finish. However, they were unable to repeat this feat and were relegated on goal difference in 2008.

Reading dropped down to the Championship in 2008 and experienced heartbreak in 2009 and 2011 when they lost out in the play-offs. They returned in 2012 but lasted just a year in the top flight.
