Following an injury ravaged career as a player that lasted thirteen years, Tommy Wright took his first steps in management in Ireland, where he won the Irish League Cup with Lisburn Distillery.

Wright then joined St Johnstone as assistant manager before he was promoted to the top job in 2013. In his first season, he guided the club to a top-six finish in the SPL and St Johnstone won the Scottish Cup Final.
