Could Danny Cowley trade Lincoln City for Barnsley?
- 7th February 2018
Barnsley were left crushed on Tuesday when manager Paul Heckingbottom decided to jump ship over to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, despite signing a contract extension with the Tykes just a few days earlier.
Football can be a cruel mistress.
Former Leeds boss Garry Monk swiftly emerged as the early frontrunner for the Barnsley post, much to the jubilation of many Reds fans on social media, but while he’s since drifted slightly to 5/1, he remains in the frame for the post.
Instead it’s Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley who now leads the way at the summit of the market at evens with Bet Victor. Also in the mix are Simon Grayson, who is being linked with everyone at the moment, and caretaker boss Paul Harsley, while Martin Jol makes a surprise appearance at 12/1.
Just a few hours after Cowley was installed as the new favourite, he created history at current club Lincoln, leading the League Two side to Wembley for the first time in the their 133-year history following a penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea’s U21 side in the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy.
The Imps will now face Yeovil or Shrewsbury in April’s final, but will Cowley still be in charge of the club for that showcase spectacle?
Going by what he said in the aftermath of Tuesday’s victory then you'd think so:
