Just how long can Avram Grant hang on for at West Ham?by Mick Bates / 10 January 2011, 11:21Tweet
Avram Grant is still managing to hold on to his role as manager of West Ham but how much longer can he stay in the job? His side managed to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup after they defeated Npower Championship side Barnsley 2-0 at Upton Park but in the all important Premier League they were comprehensively thrashed 5-0 by newly promoted Newcastle at St James Park in the week. The defeat sees West Ham seated at the bottom of the Premier League just one point away from safety.
This weekend saw the proposed signing of Steve Sidwell from Aston Villa being aborted and Hammers director Karren Brady talked about the reasons for the breakdown of the transfer in her newspaper column which has left Grant unimpressed as he does not believe that the details should have been aired in public. He was quoted as saying ""Maybe I will have a column in a newspaper and say what I think."
The win against Barnsley may have given Grant a brief reprieve but he is still thought to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked and he a tough week ahead of him as they are playing Birmingham in the first leg of their Carling Cup Semi Final against Birmingham (which is the former club of Hammers owner David Sullivan and the club that Brady was managing director of). This is followed by a Premier League tie against Arsenal at home, which could be a vital game in deciding Grants future at West Ham.
If Grant was to be removed of manager the time to do it would be now as the transfer window is still open and there are several top class managers available to be the next West Ham manager following the recent spate of sackings in all leagues.
