Bookmakers Make Jokanovic And Wagner The Obvious Targets As West Brom Sack Darren Mooreby Russell Palmer / 10 March 2019, 12:10Tweet
We're pretty used to reporting on managerial sackings and it's not uncommon for us to be taken by surprise from time to time. However, West Bropm's sacking of Darren Moore on Saturday night following their draw at home to struggling Ipswich left us stunned.
Okay, things haven't gone completely to plan for the Baggies over the last few months and their dip in form has seen them go from Championship favourites at Christmas to winning just once at home in their last nine games and just the four wins in their last 12 in the league.
That saying, West Brom are still in fourth position and the club have decided to cut ties with Moore now in a bid to make automatic promotion.
The bookies were quick to get the odds up on who will be Moore's successor, with a couple of men at the top of the betting who have gained promotion to the Premier League before.
The 2/1 favourite is Slavisa Jokanovic who guided Fulham to promotion last season via the play-offs. The Serb was sacked by Fulham early in this season, again, a somewhat surprising decision and one that has yet to pay off for the Cottagers.
A point bigger in the betting is David Wagner who left Huddersfield earlier this season. Like Jokanovic, he gained promotion via the Championship play-offs two season's ago and like Fulham, Huddersfield look a safe bet to go down this season despite changing managers. Wagner is a 3/1 chance with Bet Victor.
Michael Appleton is a 6/1 chance to return to the dugout of a team he played for, whilst the likes of David Moyes and Harry Redknapp are both 10/1.
Sam Allardyce looks on paper to be a better fit than Moyes or Redknapp available at 14/1, but it's the pair at the head of the market who could be the Club's main targets.
