Diego Simeone favourite to replace Stefano Pioli at Inter Milanby Jack Kitson / 10 May 2017, 11:23Tweet
Inter Milan are on the hunt for their fourth manager in less than a year after sacking Stefano Pioli.
Inter axed Pioli on Monday night after only six months at the helm, although he did outlast his predecessor Frank de Boer who was hurled out of the San Siro after just 85 days in the dugout.
Pioli leaves the Italian outfit down in 7th in Serie A, 21 points adrift of the Champions League places, and a simply staggering 29 points behind league leaders Juventus.
Stefano may have triumphed in an impressive 15 of his opening 20 league and cup games - winning nine games in a row - but after a sorry streak of seven games without a win, which includes five defeats, Inter decided to make a change.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has been installed as the early 6/4 favourite to replace Pioli. The Argentine has been in charge of Atleti since 2011, during which he has transformed the club into a European superpower, winning La Liga, Copa del Rey, and reaching two Champions League finals, which could be extended to three if they mount a miraculous comeback against rivals Real Madrid.
Next in the running is former France and PSG boss Laurent Blanc at 6/4. The Frenchman, who led PSG to a hat-trick of league titles, has been out of work since leaving the French giants last summer, but is now believed to be keen to return to management.
Chelsea gaffer Antonio Conte, who previously managed Italy, has been linked with a move to Inter Milan for some time, but in truth he appears unlikely to leave the Premier League, although he could be swayed by the reported £250,000 weekly salary…
Other names in the frame at this early stage include Jorge Smapaoli, Marcelino Leonardo Jardim and Unai Emery.
