Laurent Banide: Who is the new Oldham manager?

Oldham, no strangers to the rapidly-changing nature of the manager merry-go-round, have appointed Laurent Banide as their fifth boss in the space of a year.
Everyone associated with the club will be hoping that Banide stays longer than their last permanent gaffer, Paul Scholes, who spent only 31 days at the helm.
Remarkably no Latics gaffer has overseen more than 42 matches - in a single spell - since Lee Johnson over four years ago.
Banide certainly represents a surprise appointment, however given the number of managers that have come in-and-out of the Oldham gates in recent years it’s perhaps not too much of a shock when you learn that this will be nomad Banide’s twelfth job in the last 10 years.
Thierry Henry previously revealed that his fellow Frenchman was one of the most important coaches during his playing career, with Banide overseeing various coaching roles at Monaco from 1993 through to 2006, when he has handed the manager’s position.
He held the post for less than a season, then ventured out to the Middle East where he spent time at Umm Salal, Al-Kuwait, Al-Dhafra, and Al-Nasr before returning to Monaco for a second spell in 2011.
Since then Banide had a whopping eight different jobs in management, most recently another stint at Qatar side Umm Salal between July and November 2018.
"I'm delighted to welcome Laurent to Oldham Athletic,” said Oldham chairman Abdallah Lemsagam after unveiling the identity of Scholes' successor.
"He brings a lot of experience to this club and I'm looking forward to working alongside him the 2019/20 campaign.
"I believe Laurent is a fantastic coach and is the right man to take this club forward going into the new season."
Oldham, who had four different managers during a turbulent 2018/19 season, eventually ended their return down to League Two in 14th.
Banide and Oldham will now be eagerly awaiting the fixture release on June 20, while his first official match will be on the weekend of 3rd August.
