Blades Expected To Cut Ties With Adkinsby Russell Palmer / 12 May 2016, 09:39Tweet
NIGEL ADKINS has been sacked by League One side Sheffield United following a disappointing season. The Blades finished eleventh this season, winning 18 of their 46 league games under Adkins and finishing eight points off the play-off places.
The former Reading and Southampton manager is set to be sacked by Sheffield United on Thursday, according to BBC Radio Sheffield.
Adkins joined the Blades last June following on from Nigel Clough's departure following defeat in last season's play-offs. United's eleventh place finish was their lowest in the Football League since 1983 and condemns them to a sixth season in League One.
Betting is yet to be available on the next Sheffield United manager but Chris Wilder is hotly tipped to be the man on top of co-owners Kevin McCabe and HRH Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Abdulaziz Al Saud's wish list.
Wilder had been as short as 1/4 to be named new Charlton manager and met with the Valley bosses earlier in the week but it's believed that a deal could not be done. Wilder, who guided Northampton to the League Two Championship this season is a former Sheffield United player and on the face of it would appear the ideal man to get the Blades moving in the right direction.
The former Scunthorpe manager received 'Nil Points' in our recent League One Manager of the Year Awards.
Sky Bet give quotes of 12/1 and 16/1 about Adkins becoming the new manager of Peterborough or Bolton respectively.
