Hibernian snatch Terry Butcher from Inverness CTby Jack Kitson / 12 November 2013, 12:16Tweet
Hibernian will today (Tuesday) announce the appointment of Terry Butcher as their new manager on a two-and-half-year contract at Easter Road. Hibs have agreed a compensational deal with Inverness CT who will be devastated at losing Butcher, along with his assistant Maurice Malpas, to their SPL rivals.
Ironically the two clubs clashed at Easter Road as the weekend as Butcher watched from the stands as Inverness, under Malpas, comprehensively beat his new troops 2-0. The defeat leaves Hibs 7th in the SPL and now 10 points adrift of managerless Caley Thistle who will now begin their search for a new boss. The Highlanders have revealed that they in fact asked Malpas to take charge on a permanent basis but he declined the offer in order to join Butcher at Hibs.
Butcher, who replaces Pat Fenlon at the helm, becomes Hibs' fourth boss in four years, with his first match away to St Mirren after the international break. The 54-year-old will be looking to improve Hibs' dire performances in front of goal as the Edinburgh outfit have only netted a league low nine goals so far this campaign.
