Leeds United finally set to announce the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United look set to name Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager, two weeks after he first burst into the betting to replace Paul Heckingbottom at Elland Road.

Talks between Leeds and Bielsa have been on-going since the start of June after the club ended Heckingbottom's four month stint in charge.

Bielsa has dominated the betting, although the likes of Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce, Claudio Ranieri and Matias Almeyda have briefly dipped in-and-out of contention in the market.

But now, following frequent reports of work permit problems, backroom staff dilemmas and salary debates, it appears that everything has been ironed out, meaning Bielsa should officially be announced at Leeds within the next 24 hours.

The Sportsman football journalist, Jason Pettigrove, who also writes for Marca has today (Wednesday) revealed that a deal between the parties has been completed with an official announcement imminent.

If all goes to plan, the appointment will undoubtedly be one of the biggest managerial coups in recent years with Bielsa a God-like figure - in football terms - to many of the world’s top gaffers, including pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino and Diego Simeone.

Could Bielsa be the man to lead Leeds back up to the Premier League?

No one knows for sure, but whatever happens it promises to be five star entertainment.
