Managers on red alert after agent reveals Anthony Martial wants Manchester United exit

A scramble for Anthony Martial's signature is set to ensue after the player's agent revealed that his client wants to leave Manchester United.

Martial's agent, Philippe Lamboley, told French radio station RMC:

“After thinking about all the possibilities and scenarios, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United.

“There are many parameters, for now it’s premature to talk about it. Anthony will speak later to discuss all of this.

“Manchester United want to extend Anthony's contract and do not want him to leave but we haven’t found an agreement despite several months of negotiations.

"I think that when Manchester United, which is the most powerful club in the world it must be remembered, do not find an agreement in eight months of negotiations, it is because they do really want to make him an important player.

“That’s why this decision comes in. It is a well considered decision.

"However, it is quite obvious and it is very important to remember that he is under contract.

"Manchester United will have the last word and that we will respect the decision of the club, he will go to the end of its commitment.”

Lamboley also made reference to the events of the January transfer window, which saw Jose Mourinho lure over Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. The Chilean's move to Old Trafford certainly didn't improve Martial's chances of making the starting-11, which in turn meant he missed out on France's 2018 World Cup squad.

His agent's comments will no doubt put a number of managers on red alert this summer. The 22-year-old, whose contract runs out next year, has previously been linked with Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham and Max Allegri's Juventus, while Chelsea are said to be keen.

United bought Martial from Monaco back in 2015 for an initial fee of £36m - a record for a teenager - but after a bright start under Louis van Gaal the Frenchman has since grown frustrated at a lack of playing time under Mourinho.
