Reading Sack Nigel Adkins

Nigel Adkins has become the 13th Championship casualty of the 2014/15 season after Reading sent him packing following Saturday's 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Birmingham. The 49-year-old headed into the clash at St Andrews under-fire after a disappointing run of form, and the subsequent horror show that followed left the club with little choice but to make a change in the dugout as they bid to halt the shocking slump.
The abysmal result was Reading's heaviest league defeat in 15 years, while it was their ninth loss in their last 15 matches in all competitions, a rotten run which leaves the Berkshire outfit 16th in the Championship. The Royals, who finished 7th under Adkins last season, had enjoyed an impressive start to the current campaign, winning six of their opening nine games in all competitions. However, an unacceptable nine defeats since mid-September has forced the board to act and relieve the former Southampton gaffer of his duties.
Reading have also revealed that assistant manager Andy Crosby and first team Coach Dean Wilkins will be leaving the Madjeski Stadium. Steve Clarke has emerged as the early short-priced favourite in the Next Reading Manager Market, whereas the likes of Chris Hughton, Tony Pulis and Tim Sherwood all feature in the betting.
