Chris Hughton new Sack Race favourite following FA Cup exitby Jack Kitson / 15 January 2014, 12:13Tweet
After weeks of sitting at the top of the Premier League Sack Race there is now a manager under more pressure than West Ham's Sam Allardyce: Chris Hughton. The Norwich City boss has been installed as the odds-on favourite for the chop following his side's comprehensive FA Cup third round replay defeat at Fulham, leaving the deflated Canaries without a win in eight games in all competitions.
On Saturday morning Hughton was priced at 16/1 to suffer the sack, which quickly decreased down to just 5/2 by the evening after Norwich's 2-0 defeat at Everton. Now, following Tuesday's loss at Fulham, the 55-year-old’s odds make for even worse reading, with all bookmakers now pricing him as the short-priced favourite to be the next top-flight manager to lose his job.
The Fulham defeat means that Norwich last tasted victory nearly six weeks ago, whereas their last win at home dates back in November. The Norfolk club are currently hovering dangerously above the relegation zone in 15th, while just three points separates them from rock-bottom Crystal Palace. As a result Hughton heads into Saturday's crunch match at home to Hull under huge pressure, meaning a defeat to a side with the league’s worst away record - five points from a possible 30 - could spell the end for the former Newcastle boss.
