Mauricio Pochettino's odds slashed following Southampton departure rumoursby Jack Kitson / 15 January 2014, 09:37Tweet
Southampton could be on the verge of losing both their Chairman Nicola Cortese and boss Mauricio Pochettino in what would be a hammer blow to the south coast side, who have enjoyed a brilliant season to date. Bookmakers Bet Victor have reacted to the news by slashing Pochettino's odds from 100/1 down to just 2/1 in the Premier League Sack Race.
The Saints are currently 9th in the Premier League table, with 30 points from 21 games. The Hampshire side were as high as 3rd back in November but a tough run of games over the festive period has seen them slip down the table. However, they are still occupy a decent position, and look to be back on track following three wins from their last five games in all competitions.
According to today's (Wednesday) reports chairman Cortese is planning to quit the club after five years at the helm. The former Swiss banker has been influential in transforming the fortunes of the Saints, having played a pivotal role in their back-to-back promotions from League One up to the Premier League.
If Cortese does resign then this could also see Pochettino step down from his position, with the popular Argentinean previously stating in May that he would leave if Cortese did. The former Espanyol boss is only days away from his first anniversary at St Mary's (18th January), and Saints fans will be desperately hoping he stays. Pochettino has been widely praised for the high-pressing style of play he has employed at the club, which has seen the Red and White Army beat the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool since his arrival.
The Next Southampton Manager Odds currently have the former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo as the 16/1 favourite with Bet Victor. Other names that feature in the betting include Jurgen Klinsmann (20/1), Eddie Howe and Gianfranco Zola, who are both priced at 25/1.
