Dave Jones red hot favourite to replace Craig Hignett at Hartlepool Unitedby Jack Kitson / 16 January 2017, 10:02Tweet
Dave Jones could be on the verge of returning to management with Hartlepool United after bookmakers installed him as the red hot 1/10 favourite to replace Craig Hignett in the dugout.
Hignett was sacked on Sunday, a day after the club’s 1-0 defeat to Crawley Town, which left the League Two outfit down in 19th, four points above the relegation zone.
Hignett lasted just under a year at the helm. Last season they finished 16th, but after accumulating only 27 points from 26 games this term, the club have decided that the time is right to make a change.
It’s Jones who has emerged as the instant frontrunner in the betting, despite not managing a match for over three years.
The 60-year-old’s last job was at Sheffield Wednesday (2012-2013), while he’s previously had spells in charge of Cardiff, Wolves, Southampton and Stockport.
Jones, who has managed over 1000 matches, has previously won promotion with three of those clubs - Wolves, Wednesday and Stockport - while his Cardiff side finished runners-up to Portsmouth in the 2008 FA Cup Final.
In an interview with the Express & Star (Saturday) Jones revealed that he’s keen to return to football, and now if the betting is to be believed then Victoria Park could be his next destination in the managerial arena.
