Mauricio Pochettino could leave Southampton

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has dropped a bombshell by revealing that he will leave the south coast club if executive chairman Nicola Cortese departs. The Argentinean was only appointed back in January following the controversial sacking of Nigel Adkins but he is now considering his position at the helm. Since his arrival he has won numerous plaudits for his pressing style of play, which has seen Saints beat the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Earlier this week news broke that Cortese's job is under threat due to a natural break in his contract this summer. The issue is set to be resolved by the end of the month but if the Italian does leave then boss Pochettino has said he will follow suit, which would be a massive blow for the side. Cortese has developed a ruthless reputation in football having harshly sacked the likes of Adkins and Alan Pardew since coming to the club in 2009. However, Southampton’s success on the pitch cannot be denied, with Cortese overseeing back-to-back promotions.
On Tuesday Saints’ Premier League future was officially secured following Wigan’s defeat to Arsenal. The Hampshire club are currently 14th in the table and without a win in five matches, but they still have the chance to finish 10th if they win at home to Stoke in their final match of the season, although other results must go their way.
Bet Victor are the only bookmakers with a Next Southampton Manager Market up at the moment. Former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is the 16/1 favourite, followed by the likes of John Hughes, Alan Curbishley and Eddie Howe.
